From fundraising to helping with the horses, there is always so much to do around here! Our staff and volunteers are the backbone of all we do here at Drum RDA, and we hope you’ll get involved.

FAQs for Volunteering

How available do I have to be to volunteer?

In general, we are looking for volunteers who can commit to one or more days a week - every week - within term time (excluding your own holidays).  But if you have talents you’d like to share without that much time, contact us as we’d love to have you be part of the team.

Are there any physical requirements?

We are only able to consider those who are 14 years old and above as Volunteers.

While there are no physical requirements as such, please be aware that volunteering involves a fair amount of walking and leading horses. Other tasks may include tacking up, grooming, cleaning the stables, yard and paddocks.

Due to the nature of the environment we operate in (ie: working amidst horses and vulnerable participants) you do need to be able to operate independently.

Will I need to dress a certain way?

  • Good outdoor footwear (no sandals please)

  • Clothing appropriate for the weather (no vest tops or hoods please)

  • Gloves for leading horses

  • No jewellery or perfume

Do I need to know anything about horses?

The simple answer is no! As long as you have a willingness and desire to be around horses that’s enough. There’s always a lot to be done here. You do not need to have previously worked with horses - we have many other jobs around the stables!

Will there be any training involved?

Don’t worry, we’ll teach you! Training is provided in handling/leading the ponies, side walking during lessons, and supporting our riders. Training days usually take place the week before the start of term.

What if I want to help with fundraising?

The Drum holds annual fundraising events and various dressage events throughout the year.  Volunteers are more than welcome to assist at these events; we really appreciate the extra help! If you want to do more from your own home, contact us to find out more!
